FIAES TO FINANCE SUSTAINABLE LIVESTOCK PROJECT IN GUAYMANGO MUNICIPALITY
THE PROJECT WILL BE EXECUTED BY THE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF GUAYMANGO (ADESCOCUG).
ADESCOCUG met with the 200 families who will benefit, to socialize the activities contemplated by the investment in this municipality in the West of El Salvador, which will improve environmental conditions and the quality of life of livestock farmers in the area.
Engineer Silvia Flores, territorial coordinator of FIAES in the Apaneca-Ilamatepec Biosphere Reserve, reiterated the mutual commitment that must exist to achieve the project's objectives. She stressed the importance of having agricultural practices friendly to our ecosystem to increase productivity and profitability of the land.
FIAES seeks, through environmental investment, to strengthen the care of the biosphere. "We should not generate pollution in the municipality because it causes us damage at the local level, but rather affects those who live near the watersheds and mangroves. They receive all the waste and are seriously damaged, as well as the places that shelter animal and vegetable species that serve as subsistence for these families," said engineer Flores
The beneficiaries were excited to be part of the initiative and reiterated that it is important to involve them in this type of actions, as well as recognize the contribution generated by FIAES and the effort to carry out this project. "We are very grateful that they have taken us into account," said Orbelina Zapatón, one of the women who will benefit from the actions.
During the event, plants were delivered to be planted in the intervention area. It is also planned to sow grass for feeding livestock, taking the correct agroecological process and placement of perimeter fences where the crops produced with the agro-silvopastoral system will be.
The implementation of agroforestry systems implies the use of a set of land use techniques such as combining forest or fruit trees with livestock or crops on the same land. Achieving a significantly ecological and economic interaction.
